The Psi

The Psi are a race native to the Outer Plane, though barely so. They were originally built to fill the role of Angels, but were found to be ineffective and weak. Because of this, the planet Ager was created on the Inner Plane as a home for them.

Notable Psi

Despite all being puppets of the gods, some Psi are far more influential than others, and end up changing the course of history, or fighting to maintain it.

Appearance and Biology

The Psi have pitch-black skin, with bony plates that stick out past the ends of their elbows and knees. Psi average 7 feet tall. They have five toes, and four fingers and a thumb. They are hard like claws, and end in vicious points, but they are jointed as Humans' hands.

Their blood is a dark red substance, nearly black. It is mostly blood, however consists of a tiny amount of exoplasm which is what gives it the darker tinge. This also gives them a lot more magical power, yet it is what also gives the gods such supreme dominion over them.

The Psi's heads are perhaps the most striking feature of them. The face has two features: the eye, and the mouth. The eye is a large, glowing yellow circle, which takes up most of the face. The eye is, however, merely a lense, behind-which sit an array of five eyes in a circular formation, and a light-emitting glowing orb in the middle.

Below the 'eye' is a thin, wide, mouth, with pointy teeth. Their ears are long and pointed, and point back, pressed against the head. The Psi have hair, black again, that reaches down to just below their shoulders, and is most commonly in dreadlocks.

The Psi have a liking for jewelry, and will commonly wear rings, bracelets, necklaces, etc.

Society

The Psi are divided into city-states, each one encompassing a flying Citadel, about a mile of air all around it, and the land below it. Each Citadel is run by a Psi Lord, who trains an Apprentice who will eventually take his place. The Psi Lord gives orders to the Apprentice, as well as the High Priests, who then spread those orders across the city. Any order, from anyone, can be overruled by the Gods, if they wish to.

Psi work from when they are five years old. By the time they hit puberty (around 16) they will have sufficient experience that they have a chance to enter a higher field, such as Citadel Council, Psi Apprentice, or High Priesthood. If they do, the gods will grant them Arch status, and their puberty will result in the growth of wings.

The Psi have no real sense of economy. They distribute goods as their superiors order, and people are generally content with being able to serve the gods.

As one might be able to tell, the Psi are heavily religious. They are also extreme purists, to the point that imperfections entail a death penalty. Whenever an infant is born, it is checked to make sure it is up to standards. If not, it is either [smite]d or simply thrown from the Citadel. In _very_ rare cases, imperfect infants survive for whatever reason. Sometimes a parent intervenes, sometimes a god, or sometimes dumb luck (which can sometimes be assisted by Chaseos). There are a lot of Psi, and sometimes the Gods forget about an infant that is being born. These infants can grow up to become Unus: lone wanderers and hermits. They especially live a dangerous life, as they will commonly be smited immediately upon discovery, if possible.

It might be hard to believe, but the Psi are not without hearts. They are far from emotionless; just, they love the gods more than anyone else. They do fall in love, and marry, and have children, and love them, but the love of their gods is so overpowering that they would gladly kill their entire family for them. That being said, most Psi parents do feel heartbreak when their child must die due to imperfection, but they allow it for the greater good.

Psi criminals are either given the death penalty, or locked away to later be used as pawns when possessed. On a very rare occasion, a Psi will be banished from society entirely. In essence, on-purposely creating an Unus. The gods will no longer talk to this Psi, and the Psi is eventually driven to madness. A god will keep tabs on this Psi, and if the Psi ever gets too powerful, or stops being tormented, the Psi is then smited.

Powers and Abilities

All Psi are psychic, to some degree. They can talk to eachother from about 10 feet away, without speaking.

The Psi's eye is glowing yellow, which acts as a sort of night vision. In particularily dark or stormy weather, the light can be extended, similar to a lantern, to illuminate a short area before them. This is especially useful while flying in dangerous areas at night.

The Psi's most amazing ability, perhaps, is to retract their wings. They never appear very hunched over, but their backs are a little larger than a human's proportions, and contain two hollows next to the wings. When the wings fully fold up, they slip into these hollows, where they can be fully hidden.

Relation to the Gods

The Psi are effectively at the will of the Gods. Because of their position, they can be fully manipulated. The Gods can control any of them at any moment, without their permission. The Psi have a carefully balanced fear/adoration of the gods. They know they can be erased at any second, and sometimes they are disciplined by the gods, but they are also rewarded kindly for their service. The gods give them magic, prey, challenges, materials, anything they want as long as they occassionally help the gods too.

The most violent thing that happens, sometimes, is warfare. Not of a civil war, or even between nations, but as a game. The gods sometimes, in their boredom, decide to create wars between groups of Psi. The Psi never feel animosity towards their opponents, as after all they are other Psi and merely doing their duty to the gods.

Relation to the Humans
